Westward Vikings

For a brief period, around the year 1000 AD, a sizable Norse settlement existed at L'Anse aux Meadows in northern Newfoundland. From this place the Norse explored an area rich in resources, which they called Vinland. Lavishly illustrated with artifacts, photographs and up to date maps, the book tells the story of how the site was discovered, excavated and interpreted.

Westward Vikings provides a chronology of settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows, placing the Norse in the context of other peoples who have used the area, from the Maritime Archaic people to those living in the village today.
